Our Articling Program:

At Birdsell Grant, we believe our students should be fully integrated into all aspects of the firm throughout their time with us. Throughout the articling year, students will be exposed to all practice areas of the firm. Our goal is to provide our students with a well rounded experience, developing a broad base of skills in a variety of legal settings.

Our program strives to create students that will become competent associates, and in turn become partners. We hope to develop interests in various areas of practice so our students will feel eventually feel comfortable establishing and developing their own practice areas.

We help our students develop skills in the following areas:

  • Drafting, negotiation and oral advocacy
  • Communication and interpersonal skills through contact with fellow lawyers, clients and opposing counsel
  • Creative thinking to solve legal issues
  • File management by assuming files under the guidance of a senior lawyer
  • We realize that life isn’t all about the law. We strive to give our articling students work-life balance by encouraging participation in community and firm activities, as well as providing our students with “CPLED Days”, a full day off work each week to focus on CPLED assignments.

Summer Student Program

Our summer student program is designed to give students a taste of what working in a law firm is like, and is intended to start building the bridge between law school studies and a legal career.

Our goal is to expose our summer students to all areas of legal practice. Summer students will have an opportunity to work on files from all lawyers at the firm, in a wide array of practice areas. Students will have the opportunity to attend court appearances with lawyers and sit in on client meetings and examinations for discovery.

Most importantly, summer students will have the opportunity to work on all aspects of file work, including drafting contracts and pleadings and researching a variety of legal issues. It is our intention to make this a learning experience for our students so they can develop the necessary legal skills to article and in turn become associates.
